Quality of Life

When we decided on "Georgia at its Best" to describe the way we live, work, and play in Bainbridge and Decatur County, we took a lot of things into consideration, but none more so than the overall lifestyle - the day-to-day life we enjoy so much.

There are many beautiful homes and neighborhoods in Bainbridge and Decatur County. From quaint cottages and stately homes in town to the neatly manicured lawns of subdivisions surrounding the city, the area offers something for everyone. Residents claim that each neighborhood is blessed with a personality all its own.

High Income: If an executive lifestyle is more to your liking, many higher income neighborhoods are also available - Douglas Hills, Deerfield, Gandy Hill, Hidden Springs, and Lake Douglas, just to name a few. RELIGIOUS WORSHIP
Religious faith and spirituality are important parts of family and community life in Decatur County. Many denominations and places of worship are available throughout the community. Our local churches are actively involved in the community and worthy causes. The dedicated members of our local churches help create a warm and caring atmosphere that is unique to each township in Decatur County.

The productive programs sponsored or supported by local churches provide a common bond to our community through service and a love for our fellow citizens and visitors. A few of the community gatherings and organizations supported by local churches include Sunday Schools, Choirs, Sports Leagues (such as softball), Youth Outreach Programs, and the Fellowship of Christian Athletes.

CULTURE

Culture Center: Willis Park forms the heart of the Downtown area of Bainbridge. This park is a beautiful garden-style park complete with a Victorian style gazebo and fountain. There are monuments scattered throughout the park that help trace our history back for hundreds of years. The park is beautiful year-round, but especially so when the flowers are in bloom and is the setting for many community events, including the renowned series of "Brown Bag Lunch Concerts". As you could probably imagine, the Gazebo is often used for weddings and other romantic events as well. There is plenty of shading in this beautiful park and live goldfish in the fountain in the center of the park.

Performance and Arts: The Troupe Street Theater is home to many popular reviews throughout the year. Owned and operated by the Bainbridge Little Theatre (a volunteer group), the historic building is a showpiece in downtown Bainbridge. The Bainbridge-Decatur County Council of the Arts also sponsors many arts-related community events and activities. One fairly recent project of the the Council of the Arts involved renovating the old downtown Firehouse building. Originally designed in 1914 by a prominent Atlanta architect, this beautiful multi-use building, once home to City Hall and Public Safety, now is the home of the Firehouse Center and Gallery and features exhibits, concerts, meetings, lectures, and other community events.

Annual Historic Tour: This annual event is another tribute to the county's heritage and was developed by the Bainbridge Historical Society in 1989. The tour highlights homes and other structures in Bainbridge's impressive historic district, such as the Historical Museum, once a home to our Public Library.
